MP3 players are now cheaper than a pack of cigarettes

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

I wrote about this iPod shuffle knockoff  before, but it’s now available available for even less at Focalprice. Priced at $5.98/€4.43, the Mini  MP3 Portable Digital Player costs less than what you pay here for a pack of Lucky Strikes (which will set you back €4.80/$6.46 in Holland). And that includes world wide shipping all the way from Hong Kong. The players are also available in other colors, but expect to pay up to $0.95/€0.70 more for those. The quest for the cheapest MP3 player continues…

New apple MP3 player with speakers looks quite familiar

Friday, February 26th, 2010

What do you do if your products go unnoticed, because all other cheap MP3 player manufacturers from China keep slapping Apple logos on their gadgets? Yep, you just take it to the next level by designing a whole device to look like the famous fruity logo. You can get the Apple Shaped Rechargeable Portable Music Stereo Speaker with FM Radio + SD/MMC/USB/3.5mm (Black) for $26.50/€19.64, or get the red or orange version for the same price. It’s basically a rechargeable speaker with a built in FM radio and MP3 player. No built-in memory, but it sports a USB port and SD card slot. It also comes with a remote and adapters to connect Sony Ericsson and Nokia phones. Oddly, no iPod or iPhone adapters are included, so you need to connect those using the good ol’ 3.5mm jack.

$7.51 iPod Shuffle knock-off needs memory, doesn’t do the shuffle

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Why bother designing your own gadgets if you have companies like Apple already doing that for you? I got to give it to them though, they did rotate the controls 90 degrees counterclockwise compared to the previous generation Apple Shuffle and it does actually make sense if you use the clip on the backside. You still need to supply your own memory in the form of a MicroSD/TF card up to 8GB. The Shuffle clone also doesn’t have a shuffle mode, so you’re out of luck if you’re craving for randomly played music. But, at $7.51/€4.99 from DealExtreme with free worldwide shipping, this might very well be the cheapest MP3 player available, beating the previously cheapest player almost by a dollar.  Isn’t that what we all love the Chinese for? Besides the black USB Rechargeable Portable Screen-Free MP3 Player with TF Slot, you can also find blue, pink, gold and silver versions.

Atlantis 4GB deluxe waterproof MP3 player is waterproof

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Don’t you just love those calming sea sounds while swimming? Me neither, so let’s just be happy that Chinavasion introduced a deluxe version of their ‘Waterproof MP3 Player For Watersports And Shower Enthusiasts’ from 2008, also known as the NU Dolphin.

What’s so deluxe about the Atlantis compared to the previous player? Well, they doubled their 2GB flash memory to a whopping 4GB, ship with different waterproof earbuds and that’s about it. Still, being waterproof up to 10 meter and having 16 hours playback on a charge, this should be at least a must-buy  for any hardcore shower enthusiast. It’s priced at $46.04/€32.30, so that’s still cheaper than most clumsy waterproof casings alone.

According to the description, the Atlantis will make you ‘look cooler than other surfer dudes’. Judging by a video of their previous player, we can all agree that this is definitely a head turner. Video after the break.
