DealExtreme just started selling the Ranger GPS Navigation System for NDS Lite for $59.22/€40.42. This device adds GPS to your Nintendo DS (Lite), although it won’t work with the DSi because it uses Slot 2. To use the Ranger, you have convert map from Google Maps and copy it to a MicroSD card which you put into the device. While it is possible to add POIs(Point Of Interests) it’s basically a big image map with your position projected on it. So unlike most other GPS devices, you won’t get turn by turn directions, rendering the Ranger quite useless for car navigation. However, for some on foot navigation it might be a pretty cheap solution and it would be nice to see if there will be any homebrew software that makes use of this device.
This is the 100-in-1 2.4″ LCD Portable Handheld Game Console from DealExtreme, also known as the D-Cat8 8bit Game Console. As you’d probably guessed, this handheld runs on 3 AAA batteries and comes with 100 built-in 8-bit games. Only problem is that these aren’t the ones you grew up with. The 100 games are largely hacked versions of the original. So instead of everbody’s favorite plumber, you play as a fat green orge in the sprite-hacked Super Shrek Bros. It still plays the same, but it’s quite strange to see a 21st century character in a 8-bit game. I don’t know why they replaced one intellectual property with another one, because they now violate both. My guess is that the outcome is so stupid, both companies won’t even bother to do something about it. However, $19.99 for a handheld console with a color screen and 100 games still isn’t a bad deal. It’s also available in black & blue.
Running on two AA batteries these mini handheld vacuum cleaners should be just powerful enough to keep your desk dust and crumble free. Besides that, they just look awesome and cost only $5.97/€4.23 with free worldwide shipping. Now the only question that remains is: what is your favorite animal? A ladybug, a cow, a dalmatian, a pig or an elephant?
Okay, the RK168 RM/RMVB/MPEG4 Media Player available at DealExtreme for $47.28/€33.50 has ‘Network Media Player’ on it although doesn’t have any networking capabilities. It does play media files from SD cards and USB storage devices, but the best things are the two microphone input jacks and an adjustable echo effect which simple means: KARAOKE TIME! YOU CAN STAND UNDER MY UMBRELLA, ELLA, ELLA, EY, EY, EY…. Oh, wait… PO PO PO POKERFACE, PO PO POKERFACE
While devices to see through walls aren’t available to the masses, this Wall Listening Ninja Spy Device is. This product is made exclusively for ninja spies and penetrates 20cm concrete walls. Charge the device, plug in your headphones and you know exactly what people on the other side of the wall are talking about. Just like you should as a spy.
This is probably both the weirdest looking keychain and the smallest charger on the market. Priced at only $2/€1.39 with free worldwide shipping, this is probably the cheapest way to supply your cellphone, camera or other gadgets with some fresh battery juice. But how does it work and is it any good? Full review, video and more photos after the break.
Only days after Apple announced the iPhone to the world, rumours started spreading that Meizu would release another Apple inspired product that would blow the iPhone out of the water with much better specs. Before these remours, Meizu already impressed the world by releasing the excellent Nano inspired M6 Mini Player, later dubbed the Meizu SL. When the Meizu M8 was finally released after more than a year of delays, it clearly wasn’t the iPhone killer people hoped it would be. But, this device is still quite good in it’s own right and has enough to offer to stay out of the field of cheap iPhone clones.
It has a beautiful 3.4″ 720×480(more than twice the amount of pixels found on the iPhone) touchscreen, boasts WiFi, runs a custom Windows CE OS, supports a whole lot of media codecs and doesn’t have to be jailbreaked to run whatever you want. The downsides? No GPS, no 3G and dual-band only, so it won’t work in the States. However if you live in Europe and don’t care about GPS or 3G, there are only few similarly priced smartphones that come close to the M8. Otherwise, you might want to wait until the M9 with 3G will be released, probably somewhere in 2010.
The Meizu M8 16GB is now available for $411/€287 at DealExtreme, which is sadly quite a bit more than expected compared to the 8GB version priced at $338.90/€237.
So far, so good. The SmartQ 5 arrived in a slick and solid box. Nothing too fancy, but it will make sure the device will survive a long flight from China. Build quality of the MID is quite decent. The SmartQ 5 doesn’t sport the chrome edges pictured on the box, so it doesn’t have that iPod Touch knockoff look. The default OS is a bit sluggish, but is still pretty usable for most tasks. I ordered it from Allpmp.com for $154.90/€109. Full review coming soon and some photos after the break.
