HD-Media Player gives new meaning to 720P

There is one thing you always have to keep in mind if you want to order something from China: read literally every character of the decription. Read it twice. Hell, don’t even trust the description: try to get the specs directly from the manufacturer. Although most webshops try really hard to prevent you from doing that by not mentioning the real product name. This way it’s harder to find other places that sell the same products. Take the ‘Memory Card and Flash Drive Media Player for TV‘ (you gotta love those titles) for example with the following description:

Coming with composite and component connections, the CVHV-E43 lets you watch high definition (720P) and standard definition movies and videos shows straight from SD cards and USB flash drives on your television.

A nice little media player priced at $31.34/€22.10 that plays 720P videos! It just seemed simply too good to be true. And it was:

Ahhh, so it’s 720P (720×576) instead of 720p(1280×720). Quite clever, Chinavasion! Still a far cry from high definition though. But if you’re still stuck in the good ol’ standard definition era, it seems like a reasonable buy.

The player is also known as the OnlyTek OT-RM02 HD Media Player.
