For those who don’t know: the SmartQ devices are cheap MIDs (Mobile Internet Devices), capable of running Linux and a slew of other operating systems, like Windows CE and Android. They’re used as internet tablets, eBook/comic book readers and much more. After my good experiences with the SmartQ 5, I was curious if it’s bigger brother would be worth the $211.02/€145.72. Would it just be a bigger SmartQ 5 or does it bring anything new to the table? With the SmartQ V7 already being available, the review might be a bit late, but the two devices are mostly similar. So read to see if the SmartQ 7 is worth your hard earned pennies.
Introduction
First, I ordered the SmartQ 7 from Allpmp. Allpmp isn’t selling these anymore, so you can only get the faster and HD capable SmartQ V7 over there for $238.99/€165.02. As usual, Allpmp was blazingly fast when shipping out my order. Only a few hours after I placed it, I received my tracking code. A week later, I received it via air mail. If you don’t want the SmartQ V7, you can still get the SmartQ 7 from DealExtreme, where it ships for $211.02/€145.72.

Does this play standard resolution AVI files,
or DVD resolution?
(720×480)
At watchable framerates? (preferably 15-30fps)
Nope, video playback is quite horrible. Get the SmartQ V7 if you want decent video playback.
Apple has just released Ipad with similar pricing and better features for their base model. Do you think this will affect the Kindle DX market? Thanks
Better Features ? Not really !! Similar prices ?? Are you kidding ?? It’s more like double the price….
I just ordered a Smartq V7 from allPMP.
It was cheaper than the price at DX.
Anyway I wanted to know if the device has any trouble with SDHC memory.
Did any of your Smartq devices (5, 7, v5) have any trouble with them? or did you just stick to the standard 2GB sd?
I need to know to know what SD card to buy! thx
Coldsun said that people are having SDHC problems.
The only problem you might encounter is that a SDHC card might not be recognized when trying to update the firmware. It works perfectly fine in the OS itself.
I mainly used a regular 2GB SD card which I had laying around. They only cost a few bucks these days anyway. My Transcend 4GB SDHC card worked fine in the OS, but I didn’t use it to update the firmware.
Anyway, have fun with your new device!
Trying to decide between this and the WireLession W1060 7” MID. Or the new V7. Which has the best onscreen keyboard for writing. Would rather have a mid to write on instead of a 7 inch mini latptop.
Considerably, the article is really the best on this notable topic. I fit in with your conclusions and will eagerly look forward to your approaching updates. Just saying thanks will not just be sufficient, for the tremendous clarity in your writing. I will right away grab your rss feed to stay privy of any updates. Fabulous work and much success in your business enterprize!

Would the V7 be usable as a portable GPS device using a Bluetoooth GPS engine?
Would be using Win CE OS with commercial GPS software.
Thanks.
I know some people managed to do this. Might not be an easy task though, I thought it was hard to get the software to recognize the Bluetooth GPS receivers.
I have problem with reading PDF files(doesn’t work on Android and Linux).Any idea, please?
I don’t know, but I guess the PDF file you used is damaged or poorly made, because it’s very unlikely for Android and Linux to behave exactly the same. It’s also possible that the page or file size is too large or a problem with the images. I recommend trying some basic PDF files, like free ebooks, to test the reader.
Magnificent goods from you, man. I’ve understand your stuff previous to and you are just too magnificent. I really like what you’ve acquired here, certainly like what you’re stating and the way in which you say it. You make it entertaining and you still care for to keep it wise. I can not wait to read far more from you. This is actually a tremendous site.
