Ramos T17FHD / T17HD review

Conclusion

Pros

  • Great screen quality
  • Excellent build quality
  • Slick interface
  • Micro SD card slot and USB OTG to expand memory
  • HDMI/RGB output and remote control for media center functionality

Cons

  • No WMV file support
  • Folder based structure for music
  • 1080p/high bitrate files are less smooth than on the Ramos T11 TE
  • No HDMI cable included

Final conclusion

The Ramos T17FHD / T17HD is quite an impressive video player. For the price of an iPod Nano, you get a PMP with a 4.3″ high resolution screen, RGB/HDMI output and high definition video playback. Compared to the Ramos T11 TE, the T17FHD has a smaller screen, shorter battery life, no touchscreen and doesn’t support WMV files. Screen quality is better though, because of the lack of an extra touchscreen layer, resulting in better colors and viewing angles. Videos encoded in 1080p are sometimes also a bit too heavy, but overall the player handles most videos just fine. At a price point of $118.99/€88.35, it’s hard not to be impressed by the Ramos T17FHD.

Update: I changed the specifications thanks to nmark from Digital8 who pointed out some inaccuracies. Digital8 is a great forum about PMPs and MIDs from China that has a some users with a lot of knowledge about those devices. Definitely recommended to join if you’re interested in those devices.
