Yongnuo YN-467 for Nikon available now

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

Yongnuo has made a name for itself by releasing very decent flash units for very low prices and finally, they have released a new one for Nikon camera’s. The YN-467 improves on the previous models by combining the i-TTL support of the Yongnuo YN-465 with the slave trigger functions from the YN-460 with a new auto zoom head. You can grab it from DealExtreme for $77.70/€60.54. Too bad I just bought a YN-465.

SmartQ V5 and V7 tablet prices drop to $149.99 and $209.99

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

The SmartQ V5 is still the most ambitious gadget to come out of China. It’s a small tablet(pictured on the bottom left) with a 4.3″ 800×480 touchscreen, HDMI output, full SD card slot, wifi and three operating systems installed (Linux, Android and Windows CE). It’s even capable of playing 1080p videos. Since our SmartQ V5 review, there have been quite some updates which vastly improved the device. Even better is that AllPMP dropped the price to a sweet $149.99/€116.06. The SmartQ V7 is basically the same device with a 7″ screen and a larger battery. It’s now selling for $209.99/€165.29.

SmartQ T7 7″ Android tablet available now

Monday, August 9th, 2010

The SmartQ T7 is basically a SmartQ R7 with a faster processor and Android 2.1 installed instead of Linux. The clockspeed of the processor has been increased to 720MHz, up from 667MHz on the R7, but besides that it’s technically the same device. Unlike all other Android tablets from China (except the Ramos W7), the SmartQ devices are actually very decent products. Battery life is good, the 7″ touchscreen is decent with a resolution of 800×600 and the devices are well built. So the Android junkies who were waiting for a decent 7″ tablet might consider the SmartQ T7. The only downside is that it uses one of those old-fashioned resistive touchscreens. Even though the processor speed has been increased, the price stayed the same at $233.99/€177.58 for the Wifi version. There is also a 3G version priced at $283.99/€215.53.

After months of delays, the Ramos W7 has finally arrived. The Ramos W7 is a mobile internet device running Android with a 4.8″ 800×480 capacitive touchscreen. As usual, here is the unboxing video first and the full review will be up soon.

Ainol V7000HDK 3″ portable player looks good, is cheap

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

Those looking for a small, slick and affordable PMP might want to have a look at the Ainol V7000HDK, the smaller brother of the impressive V9000HDA. The Ainol V7000HDK sports a 3″ 400×240 screen, has tv-out and 4GB of flash memory, which can be expanded using micro-SD cards. With a price of only $44.99/€36.36 (worldwide shipping included) at ChinaBuye, this player is quite a bargain.

SmartQ R7 review

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

The SmartQ R7 is the latest mobile internet device in the popular SmartQ series. While still called a MID, it’s obvious that Smart Devices put their focus more on eBook reading with the SmartQ R7. The R7 both adds and loses some functionality compared to the other (cheaper) SmartQ devices. Read on to find out if they still stepped up their game of if you should stick to the older MIDs.

World cup football phone won’t win any prizes

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

There are only a few days left until the world’s biggest sport event breaks loose: the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. All markets are already flooded with merchandising, but now we also have this beautifully designed football shaped phone from FocalPrice for $91.56/€75.32. The chances of me ordering this phone are about as big as those of Holland winning the world cup: we never won that one. GO HOLLAND!

New 8.9″ Windows tablet does at least something right

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

Yes, it’s another Windows tablet with mediocre specs: 8.9″ 1024×600 touchscreen, 1.2GHz VIA C7-M processor, 1GB memory. However, the attachable leather case with a built-in keyboard looks rather slick and useful. It’s something that a lot of other devices could use (sorry peeps, touch typing just doesn’t cut it for me). You can get the PC819 for a pretty hefty $471.23/€387.68 at ChinaBuye.

SmartQ R7 unboxing video

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

After my good experiences with the other SmartQ devices, I decided to get the SmartQ R7 from AllPMP for $258.99/€207.32. First impressions are decent. The SmartQ R7 is a more accessible device for the average user, but loses some functionality in the process. Anyway, enjoy the unboxing video until the full written review is up.

Ainol V9000HDA unboxing

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Here is another unboxing of a portable media player from China. This time it’s the Ainol V9000HDA, boasting a 4.3″ 800×480 touchscreen. I got mine from HouseOfDAP for $136 with free worldwide shipping. It’s also available from AllPMP for $128.99, but if you add the shipping costs, it will cost a bit more although you get some free accessories. So far, the Ainol V9000HDA  is the slickest looking device I received from China, even the box looks nice. Expect a full review in the days to come.
