Lenovo LePhone with Android and AMOLED available from China

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Most Android phones from China aren’t really worth blogging about. Most of them come with Android 1.6, resistive touchscreens and have no 3G, so they are stuck somewhere in the Dark Ages of smartphones. Lenovo on the other hand is of course one of the more famous Chinese brands and their phones are doing quite well in the most populated country of the world. The LePhone (pronounce it the French way like le Phone, and you got the best phone name ever) is a pretty impressive Android phone with an 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 512MB RAM and it’s one of the few phones that’s still actually shipping with an AMOLED screen.  Peep the full specs at ChinaVasion, where LePhone is available for  $498.27/€364.87.

The SmartQ V3 arrived today, a MID that shares most of it’s features with the SmartQ V5, but with a lower price tag (only $109.99/€82.55 at AllPMP). SmartQ dropped the Bluetooth and horrible Windows CE on this device, but you still get a neat little MID with a 4.3″ 800×480 touchscreen, USB On-The-Go, full SD-card slot, HDMI output, 1080p video decoding and ofcourse both Linux and Android as operating systems. Expect a review within a few days. Until then, enjoy the unboxing video:

Playstation 3 Jailbreak Dongle available for $28.60

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

It seems like the Chinese just pirated the over priced piracy device for the Playstation 3, considering it costs only $28.60/€21.87 at DealExtreme with free shipping. For those who don’t know, the PS3 Jailbreak USB Dongle is the famous hack that allows you to play backups from the hard drive and run homebrew content on the Playstation 3. Sony doesn’t approve, so be careful with updating the firmware of your console or you might get banned from PSN in the future.

Mini MP3 dance pad will let you play with your finger

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

The best gadgets are the ones that are useless but fun and this one exactly fits the bill. All you basically do is try to keep up with the game by pressing the buttons that light up as fast as possible and advance to the next stage. The nifty part is that MP3 files can be loaded to the 128MB of flash memory on the device, so you don’t have to listen to those horrible bleepy electronic tunes that usually can be found on cheap electronic games. It’s basically a pocked sized version of Dance Dance Revolutiomn. According to the box, you will ‘play with your finger and open your wisdom’. No idea whether or not that that’s actually the case, but for $17.10/€13.35 at DealExtreme it seems like a pretty nice desk toy to kill some time. It’s also available with some other artwork on top.

New Apple phone has full QWERTY keyboard

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

Okay, so it’s not exactly what most people have in mind when they think of an Apple phone, but you got to give the designers some creativity points. Either that or fire them immediately. On the inside, things don’t fare much better. The specifications mention a whopping 145KB of internal memory and a 2.2″ QVGA screen with a resolution of 640×480, which is impossible, because QVGA is 320×240. If you still can’t resist buying one, you can grab it from Focalprice for $86.11/€68.83, where it’s also available in beautiful pink and green.

Car key spy cam takes car keying to a whole new level

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

These spy cameras are getting better, smaller and cheaper as each day goes by. Besided mounting them on a radio controlled vehicle, the practical use of these devices always seem to be a bit shady, but that doesn’t make them less awesome for us gadget freaks. The latest Sound Activated Car Key Mini Camera Mini DV Support 16 TF Card (Black) is especially hard to identify as a camera and records video in 720×480 with 30 frames per second. Like many other spycams, this is probably upscaled from 640×480, but video quality is still quite impressive for a gadget that costs only $17.77/€13.97 with free worldwide shipping. Expect more videos of things people don’t want to have recorded to hit the net soon. Video made by a similar cam after the break.

GPS keychain looks like a Tamagotchi

Friday, September 10th, 2010

It just seems like yesterday when an ugly pixelized virtual pet on keychain took over the world and now you can use the GPS Receiver + Location Finder Keychain (PG03 Mini GPS) to find your way back to any stored point of interest. Technology advances so quickly. The neat little gadget is quite handy to get back to your parked car or tent on a festival campsite. It’s also capable of recording the travel speed and time and it’s possible to to view the current velocity and altitude. Pretty sweet. At $35.25/€27.72 it’s not very expensive either.

SmartQ V3 Android/Linux MID shows up for $119.99

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

The SmartQ V3 just showed up at AllPMP for $119.99/€94.15, which is $30 less than the very similair SmartQ V5 (SmartQ V5 review). So what are the differences? It seems like the V3 doesn’t have Bluetooth, lacks a microphone and comes without the useless Windows CE. Other than that, it’s still a nice little tablet with a 4.3″ 800×480 touchscreen, 600MHz ARM processor, 256MB RAM, WiFi, 2GB flash memory, HDMI output, 1080p video playback, SD card slot, USB On-The-Go and both Android and Linux as operating systems. The color has also been changed, from champagne gold to silver and it seems like this one comes with a pair of earbuds. AllPMP expects to ship the devices next Monday.
